I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Dr. Khalifa between 1979 - 81 when I returned home to Glace Bay to practice medicine. "Khalifa" was always kind , personable, never appeared rushed or impatient. His personal and professional skills and collegiality were greatly appreciated by myself and our colleagues. I often wondered what life became for him as he remained in Cape Breton when I moved in 1981. My condolences to his Family and thank you for sharing this wonderful man with us.

إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ
I had spent a short yet long trip with Khalifa sahib. We went on a Tabligh trip from Toronto to Victoria BC. The 25 days together on the road were nothing but amazing. He was an amazing person. I've mentioned him in so many stories over the years. From his mountaineering summits to roadtrips were some amazing life experiences he shared with me. Definitely, made a long lasting impact on my life.
May Allah elevate his status in paradise and grant the family strength to endure this loss.

Dr. Khalifa was my Nana Abu (maternal grandfather). Over the many years I cherished with him, we forged countless memories that have been etched in my heart. He has left big shoes for me to fill, and I hope I will continue to make him proud, InshAllah. May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannah, Ameen.

Inna Lillahe Wa Inna Elaihe Rajeon. Our heartfelt condolences to the family.
Very sad to find our beloved friend not with us any more.
I have known Momin since the fifties, during our college days at King Edward Medical College, Lahore.
A great friend and human being who had become a member of our family.
We spent time together not only in Pakistan but also in Montreal during our residency training years in the sixties. Those were very important years and Momin not only got to know my family but was also
Godfather to our daughter Itrath.
We spent a lot of time together and Momin was a great support to my wife and daughter. We will not forget all he did for us during those early and difficult years in Montreal.
We kept in touch despite Momin moving to Nova Scotia and I to Hamilton, Ontario.
We visited Momin a number of times in Glacé Bay and stayed with him in Arkandor, the beautiful home in Cape Breton. He was a great host and we will not forget his generosity to a group of us who visited him in Cape Breton.
During his numerous visits to Toronto he always made a point to visit us, first in Thornhill and later at our condo in Chedington, Toronto.
We stayed in touch and visited him when he settled in Toronto at his nephew’s home in Maple.
My wife Batool, our daughter Itrath and I will never forget his kindness and affection and pray that he will be at peace in Janaat.
Will miss your friendship and love. Rest in Peace.
Batool, Ali and Itrath Qizilbash.

I was the only brown woman working at the post office in Hamilton Ontario in the early 70’s. A friendly pleasant fellow postal worker befriended me and informed me that her mother’s doctor back in Nova Scotia was from Pakistan. Ah that is nice I said, I know of someone who is a doctor from Pakistan living in Glace Bay NS. What is his name? It is Dr. Khalifa! Small world. I had never met Dr. Khalifa, but knew of him and his brothers living in Toronto as cousins of my brother-in-law in Kashmir, Mr. Fazal Ahmed.
I finally met Dr. Momin Khalifa at his home in Glace Bay with my two daughters and my friend, as we drove us through Nova Scotia on our summer holidays in 1992. Dr Momin was a gracious host and talked about his time in pre-partition Srinagar Kashmir as a Student at the medical college. He spoke admiringly of my father, and remembered how he would occasionally cooked for them!
We stayed overnight at his lovely mansion like home with beautiful persian carpets. My daughter, now a writer and poet, preferred to sleep in the library, she remembers, with a floor to ceiling bookshelf!
In his beautifully furnished home in Glace Bay, I took note of the beautiful bone China dishes in the etagere and looked under the saucer to see the make. Saw that it was Paragon, Tree of Kashmir design.
I expressed my delight. He noted, and before leaving he gifted me a cup and saucer on a wooden pedestal, from the set of eight he had!! This was such a wonderful gesture on his part.
He certainly was full of interesting stories when later I visited the Khalifas in Toronto on occasions with my mother as she was the keeper of our history connections with the family from pre-partition Jammu Kashmir.
I lost touch with the family after she passed. With Dr. Momin’s passing, a chapter has closed, as he was the last of that generation of my elders who shared that history of our mutual ancestors. May they all be gathered in that elevated place of eminence and light, that our Creator has reserved for the righteous like him. My heartfelt condolences to all the family who mourn his loss. May you all be comforted by his wonderful memories. Ameen.
Sadly, we did not take any photos with him. But here is a photo of the cup and saucer, generously gifted to me by Dr. Momin Khalifa! May his soul be at peace. Ameen.

My first introduction to Cape Breton was an unforgettable day long trip in 1988 with Momin accompanied by my sister in law, Jenny and my newly born nephew and godson, Kieran. Momin’s great kindness, enthusiasm and erudition - so lightly worn - left an indelible impression.

So beyond saddened at the passing of our beloved Dr. Sahib. He was so important to us, and looking back at the core memories of my childhood, there are very few that Dr. Sahib wasn’t part of. From surprising me with my first kitten when my parents were vehemently against me getting one, to the opened tab he had for us kids to pick out all of the candy we wanted from Bucky’s convenience store, Dr. Sahib was the best. He wasn’t just a family friend, he felt like a grandfather to my siblings and I.
I learned so much about life from him. Not only through all of his stories that would go on for hours at a time, but by example through the way that he helped everyone around him, never expecting anything in return. There were so many qualities about him that I admired like his wit/ humour, his passion for the random projects that he would start, his charisma, and of course his unconventional cooking. Dr Sahib was so influential in my life.
He will be deeply missed, and always remembered.

Oh my , I felt a deep sadness after seeing Dr Kalifa's obituary . I worked with Dr Kalifha in many departments but later yrs were in the Operating rooms at the Glace Bay Community Hospital and The Glace Bay General . He assisted with many surgeries and was also certified in Gastroscopies . He was valued member of the Medical Staff. How he loved to tell his stories and treated our staff to suppers he cooked himself out at Arkendor . He also gave out his personal number if you were in need of assistance . The Community of Eskasoni will miss him as he was often helping out there . He had a wonderful outlook on life . I remember him telling us "We are just a blip in the universe " !He had an amazing collection of photographs that told of his many adventures. It was my pleasure to have known him . Rest well Oh Good and humble servant .

Doc: You were a vital part of my family for 59 years. You inspired me, my children, and your chosen community of Cape Breton. Very few individuals have the means or opportunity to live the full life you did. You were adventurous (mountain climbing), compassionate (aid in disaster relief with Doctors Without Borders in Haiti and Pakistan), faithful to your Ahmadiyya beliefs and even establishing the first Mosque in Sydney. You claimed to be a good cook too. Most people don't use Coke to tenderize meat and throw in whatever spices came out of the cupboard first. Somehow these impromptu dishes/ingredient combinations turned out. However, as you often remarked, "It's not the food but the company." And you loved company and hated to eat alone. Your fun loving personality and story telling ability was sought out for many gatherings. Usually you were the centre of attention. The other side of you that I admired was your humbleness and down to earth attitude. You could fit into any group with ease. You also avoided conflict by all means. Thankful Allah was merciful and your passing was quick. Blessed to have had you as part of my family and will cherish your memories.

As Salam Alakum. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Dr. Momin Khalifa Sahib was maternal cousin of my late father, Mr. Fazal Haq Sahib, who lived in Srinagar, Kashmir.
Dr. Momin Sahib visited Kashmir several times and stay at our home in Raj Bagh. He was very close to my father and they used to talk to each regularly other on the phone.
I have amazing memories of Dr. Momin sahib trips to Kashmir when I was a young school kid. We went to many beautiful tourist places in Kashmir with him and he used to take a lot of photographs.
Dr. Momin was a generous person and full of life and energy. He visited me when I was a graduate student in Rochester, New York, and stayed with me for a few nights.
Our entire family living in USA, Kashmir, and all over the world is saddened by his passing away. May Allah grant him highest place in Jannah and forgive all his shortcomings.
