My first memory of Mubarak Sahib dates back to an age I can’t even remember, but what I do remember is that I learned not to talk during a Friday sermon because the person delivering it was saying something incredible. I remember the feel of his hand patting my cheek, and the extreme kindness radiating from his eyes. As I grew up I slowly began to understand what Murabi sahib was talking about, and his sermons instilled a deep sense of loyalty and appreciation for having been born an Ahmadi. This is his legacy. His passion and love for Khilafat and the jama’at radiated so beautifully that it is embedded in generations of Canadian youth. He was a man with a fountain of knowledge and he spent his life assuaging the thirst of others. He was the greatest orator I have ever come across, I can still recall some of his speeches 20 years laters, “Imagine…imagine a tiny dusty hamlet called Qadian….” and my young mind would immediately be transported picturing his words crystal clear waiting for what comes next. Calgary was devastated when he left, but we watched with pride as he continued to teach, to inspire, to alight with passion the rest of Canada. Maulana Mubarak Nazir Sahib was a great man, who held so much power over peoples’ hearts, and at the same time he was filled with so much humility, that is the rarest quality that I have seen in any human. Over the years I have had many chances to listen to, talk with, learn and be in the presence of Murabi Sahib. The love and excitement he showed in meeting my kids, with the exact same kindness and love he showed me as a child brought tears to my eyes. The world has truly lost one of its great, a true lion of Ahmadiyyat. Inna lillahe wa inna elaihe rajeoon. Zanib Hussain
