I'm so sorry to hear of Riaz's passing. He was such a thoughtful, considerate man who always found the positive in a situation. He could summon a smile even when he was not feeling well. Riaz's family is in my thoughts and prayers. Louise.

So sad to have lost yet another good teacher who I also considered to be a close friend. Riaz taught students who wanted to be taught. If they were willing to make an effort he was there 24/7 forever. He taught Pat our daughter in secondary school and then continued to mentor her in college and in University.
Riaz demanded and expected high standards from his students. Whenever they faltered he regularly called them “Dummies.” No one was insulted. They knew that coming from Riaz it was a term of endearment, a challenge that they rose to meet.
Teaching and living in a small community in the Abitibi, an area without much of an Islamic community wasn’t easy. Riaz and Bushra went out of their way to share their culture with us. I still have the copy of the Koran that Riaz gave to me and wonderful memories of meals and conversations that we had together as families, colleagues and most of all as friends. At our International Suppers the Pakistan table was the first to be sought out thanks to Bushra and Riaz’s culinary talents.
St. Joe’s was a better school because Riaz taught there and Val d’Or was a better community because the Ahmed family lived there. I will miss you my friend but I have memories and I am so happy that you came our way.
Our sincerest condolences go out to Bushra and to the entire family.

My condolences to Mr. Ahmed's family. He taught me for two years in Val d'Or (75-77) and I was very fond of him. Mr. Ahmed was a great teacher and mentor always smiling. I still remember him calling a student who missed the obvious "dum dum"

Mr. Ahmed is the main reason I did well in science and math, without him inspiring me to love physics I probably would not have gone into engineering. What a great teacher, I will remember him forever. My condolences to his family and close friends.

My family and I wish to extend our sympathies to the entire family. While you were in Vald'Or, we enjoyed many hours spent with your family. Indeed, Mr. Ahmed played a formative part in my life, and I probably would have never gotten through Sec. V math had it not been for his countless hours spent helping me understand. There has never been another teacher at St. Joes who make students understand such difficult subjects as well as Mr. Ahmed. He has had a hand in forming some of the brightest minds, at a time when many things did not make any sense. Mr. Ahmed also found a way to get in touch with me when my grandmother was hit by a drunk driver, and was fighting for her life. I will forever be grateful for his assistance and involvement at that time. I used to love it when he would pop in for coffee and a chat with Frank. I extend my love to the family during this difficult time. and will always have fond memories of that period in our lives.

I have been blessed to be a student and privately tutored by "Mr. Ahmed" ❤ in Vald'Or, Qc.during the early 1990's. Math was a struggle for me, but he was patient, kind and humorous when I needed it. My condolences and prayers are with your family at this time.
