Musarrat was my kindest and gentlest friend. We never ran out of things to talk about, whether it be gardening or cooking or family, and she loved a little joke. I never left her house without first being given a cup of tea or coffee and a meal. She was a great cook and made the best Biriyani, even giving me a cooking lesson in how to make that. We shared gardening tips and my garden has flowers from her seeds she shared. That is a wonderful reminder of Musarrat. I will miss you dear friend, and I’ll never forget you.
Blessings, Lis.

Mussarat Jahan Begum (née Lone) was born on September 12, 1945 in Ifunda, Tanzania. She was the daughter of Fazal Karim Lone (previous president of both Dar-es-Salaam and Gillingham Jamaats) and Sarwat Begum.
Mussarat was married to Iqbal Mirza for 52 years. They travelled the world together and enjoyed each other’s company. To family and friends, they will always be known as Mussarat and Iqbal!
Mussarat was a dedicated teacher for over 40 years in the Toronto District School Board. She was a beloved educator teaching the beauty of home economics.
Mussarat was a pioneer member of the Toronto Jamaat after immigrating to Canada in 1975. She participated in numerous events including being part of the hospitality team at Jalsa Salana. She was especially known in the Durham Jamaat for her culinary expertise, providing dessert for all 250 members during the blessed month of Ramadhan, on an annual basis.
She took Khidmet-e-khalq to the peak, assisting anyone in need, be it financial or with providing them with basic necessities. Mussarat opened her heart and home unconditionally to everyone.
She also made the trip to Saudi Arabia in order to perform Hajj.
She was a beautiful soul. She took care of all who knew her and was absolutely adored by adults and children alike. She will always be affectionally known as “dadi”, “nani” and “auntie Mus” by so many children. She will always be known for her kindness, generosity, love and culinary delights. Mussarat Mirza will be missed by her countless friends, siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
