How to Quit Smoking (Forever)
Abdul Bari Griffith
The habit and addiction of smoking cigarettes is considered amongst the medical community as one of the hardest habits to quit for human beings.
More addictive than even heroin, once a person becomes addicted to smoking, the habit is almost impossible to quit on his own. The longer a person smokes and the more they smoke, the harder it becomes for the smoker to get free from this vile habit. They then run to their doctor who is not trained to help people quit smoking, and he refers them to the pharmacy where they pay for methods to quit smoking.
However, these methods are usually not successful, so the person goes back to his doctor for more advice. Most people who try to quit on their own fail at least five times, and the others are never successful.
I was very lucky when I was 24 years of age; I was smoking 2 packs a day (50 cigarettes) and was heavily addicted. I managed to run into some people who were holding seminars on quitting smoking. Then main emphasis was on the little-known fact that the actual physical withdrawal is only seventy-two hours, and after this, the physical habit is 99% broken. The mental and emotional dependence on nicotine is still present, but the main problem (physical dependence) has been successfully dealt with. The issues of these remaining aspects of dependency are relatively easy to deal with.
I was able to quit a nine-year habit that was becoming progressively worse through the successful application and completion of this program. These programs are no longer available to the public, however, using the information in this program and my own insights, I have quit a two-pack a day habit successfully for thirty-three years, and helped 38 people to successfully quit this terrible addiction. The old saying “knowledge is power” is only partially correct, for without proper application, this knowledge is useless. So for the people who are desperate to quit, here is a completely natural method to quit smoking.
Your Action Plan
To Become Smoke-Free!
1.Analyze the cost of your habit. At a pack a day it is costing about $300/month. In a year it is $3600, which I am sure can be used for more positive endeavours.
2.Select a time when you have at least a week to yourself. Quitting smoking is usually so stressful that it is recommended to quit away from work where the stress may cause you to do inappropriate actions.
3.Once you have a time selected, start to prepare for this time. On a sheet of paper list on one side all the positive aspects of smoking. On the other side list all the negative aspects of smoking. At a glance, one can see the obvious need to quit smoking. This is known as The Ben Franklyn Close because any time Ben needed to make an important decision he used this technique. Any time a person in the process of quitting is having a really tough time, keeping this sheet of paper around can help to realize the futility of continuing smoking.
4.Prepare for the countdown by telling your family and people closest to you that you have made the decision to quit and you may be very irritable at this time. Do not associate with smokers at the time of quitting and for at least two weeks after successfully quitting.
5.Prepare for the actual night of quitting before by getting rid of all your smoking stuff, cigarettes, lighters, ashtrays, matches etc. Associating with smokers at this time is a no-no, as mentioned above. Also, do not sit in the same chair when you are quitting smoking as the one used when smoking. Sit in different chairs, have an orange juice instead of the coffee you had when smoking, drink lots of water, go to bed early, but when awake, stay busy so the withdrawal is easier.
6.Before you quit, you should start a cardio program, and increase it to the point you can tell the damage smoking is doing to your lungs. Staying fit is one of the best ways to stay quit.
7.Keeping in mind that the first 72 hours are the hardest to quit, here are a few tips: 1.Drink grapefruit juice when really feeling the urge to light up.
2.Sleep as much as possible.
3.When awake keep busy so you do not notice as much the absence of cigarettes.
4.Set little goals (5 minutes) to get through the craving.
5.Remember, the 72 hours will be over soon so stay tough the last 3 days.
6.After about a week, the urge to smoke is much less and after two weeks clean, just being around a smoker makes a person sick. So, after the last 3 days the urge should be much less. Keep in mind the worse is only 72 hours long.
7.Do not at this time associate with negative people. They can ruin your attitude. At this time you need all the help you can get.
8.Belief in God is crucial to getting through the withdrawal process. All religions abhor suicide and smoking is really just a slow form of suicide. No religion allows suicide, so when you quit know that you are pleasing Allāh.
May God Almighty help those who want to quit their bad habits. Amīn.

I remember Bruce's smiling face.
When the Jama'at returned the government grant for building of Aiwan TAHIR, he was very excited. He said, only a divinely guided community could return such a grant. This triggered his decision to accept Islam- Ahmadiyyat.
May Allah grant him Maghfirat!
